International Food Security Assessment, 2013-2023

Food insecurity in the 76 low- and middle-income countries examined in this report is expected to remain virtually unchanged between 2012 and 2013. By 2023, however, the number of food-insecure people is projected to increase nearly 23 percent to 868 million, with the share of the population that is food insecure growing from 20.4 percent to 21.5 percent. Errata: On July 3, 2013, the second sentence in the text box on page 27 was corrected to say that the food-insecure share of the Asia region's population is projected to remain under 18 percent. The third sentence was corrected to say that the most food-insecure countries in the region are Afghanistan, North Korea, and Yemen.
