Annual State Agricultural Exports Interactive Chart
California has remained the top export earnings state since 2000, with Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Texas near the top of the list in any given year. The largest exporters of animal products in recent years have been Iowa, the largest pork producer, as well California, the largest dairy supplier, and Texas, one of the top beef exporters. The top three exporters of plant products have consistently been California, Illinois, and Iowa. California is the top exporter of a range of vegetable, fruits, and nuts, whereas Illinois and Iowa are top exporters of soybeans, corn, and feeds. State exports are calculated using ERS’ cash-receipts methodology. Currently, the United States exports about 3.5 times more plant (crop) products than animal products, leading to a higher rank for large grain- and oilseed-producing states.
