Briefly

Timothy Parker is a sociologist in the Rural Economy Branch in the Resources and Rural Economics Division. His research focuses on rural labor markets, poverty, rural mortality, and the ERS county classifications. Tim is also responsible for conducting development and research for several major ERS data products. These include the county typology codes, rural-urban continuum code, urban influence code, the Rural Atlas, county lookup data, and State Fact Sheets. His current research—with coauthors David McGranahan, Robert Gibbs, and Shannon Monnat—focuses the rural mortality and the opioid crisis.

Education

Tim has an MA in Sociology from the University of Maryland and a BA in Sociology from the George Washington University.
