As an economist in the Structure, Technology and Productivity Branch in the Resource and Rural Economics Division, Doris J. Newton's research expertise was on agricultural structure focusing on small farm structure and performance. Doris worked on a variety of research topics during her years with ERS. Previous work included identifying priority small farm research issues for the Department; research on trends in pesticide use on fruit and vegetable farms and pest management practices on organic farms; and research on food marketing industry structure, focusing on retail and wholesale firm characteristics and trends.
