The ACRE program recently authorized by the 2008 Farm Act provides revenue protection to producers in exchange for a 20-percent reduction in their annual direct payment allotments, a 30-percent reduction in marketing loan rates, and the forgoing of counter-cyclical payments. One enrolled, ACRE participants remain in the program through the 2012-13 crop year. States with the highest levels of ACRE-enrolled base acres were in regions dominated by wheat, corn, and soybean production; 96 percent of the national total of planted acreage on ACRE farms is in those regions. This map was originally published in the ERS report, Factors Influencing ACRE Program Enrollment, ERR-84, December 2009.
