Food away from home: Despite steady price inflation, year-over-year changes in inflation-adjusted spending positively increased on average

The USDA, Economic Research Service’s Food Expenditure Series tracks spending on food at home and food away from home. In 2023, the series shows, per capita food spending by U.S. consumers, businesses, and Government entities reached a high of $7,672, fueled primarily by a 12-percent increase in spending on food away from home.
