Median farm household income and median U.S. household income, 1994–2024

Since the 1980s, the USDA, Economic Research Service has reported an income measure for farm operator households comparable to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census’ (Census Bureau) Current Population Survey measure for all U.S. households. Generally, the income measure is net money income from farm and off-farm sources, except that farm depreciation is included as an expense.
