In fiscal year 2023, children accounted for about 39 percent of all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants, similar to the 40 percent for children in fiscal year 2022. Children younger than 5 made up about 11 percent of participants in fiscal year 2023, while school-age children made up about 28 percent. Adults ages 18–59 represented 42 percent of SNAP participants in fiscal year 2023, similar to fiscal year 2022. The share of the SNAP caseload age 60 and older was about 19 percent in fiscal year 2023.
