Briefly

Monte Vandeveer is a research economist with the Animal Products and Cost of Production Branch, in the Market and Trade Economics Division at the USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS).

Background

Monte Vandeveer grew up on a farm in south central Kansas, and he studied agricultural economics at Kansas State University for his B.S. and M.S. degrees. He received a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University in 1990. He has worked in university Extension for Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska, with a focus on farm management topics, and he also worked in Hanoi, Vietnam, for three years with a nonprofit organization. Monte also spent several years with ERS after returning from Vietnam, with a focus on crop insurance and livestock market outlook. His current duties at ERS are with the Cost of Production Estimates team.
