Briefly

Mark Ash is an agricultural economist with the Field Crops Branch of USDA’s Economic Research Service.  He is a principal contributor to USDA’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report (WASDE) and is author of the monthly ERS report Oil Crops Outlook. Ash also contributes to USDA’s long-term baseline projections for oilseeds and oilseed products and presented the Department’s Grains and Oilseeds Outlook at the USDA Outlook Forum in 2008 and 2014.

Background

Mark has been with the ERS since 1985, with his primary focus on analyzing oilseeds markets and conducting grains and feeds research.  Mark completed his graduate training at Iowa State University, where he was also a FAPRI staff member involved in modeling the U.S. soybean market. He grew up on a grain and oilseeds farm in northwestern Minnesota.

Education

Ash earned a M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Iowa State University in 1984. He also holds a B.A. degree from St. Cloud State University.
