Briefly

Christina Estela Brown is a research agricultural economist in the Conservation and Environment Branch of the Resource and Rural Economics Division at USDA’s Economic Research Service.

Background

Christina joined ERS in September 2021. Prior to joining ERS, she was a postdoctoral scholar with the University of Central Florida's National Center for Integrated Coastal Research. At this center, she studied the economic impacts of natural hazards, such as tropical cyclones and harmful algal blooms. Her dissertation research centered on non-market valuation of freshwater flows in the Everglades and how risk perception of climate change shifts those values. Her research interests include ecosystem services valuation, the economics of water, and wetland and aquatic ecosystems.

Education

Christina received a Ph.D. in Earth Systems Science (with a concentration in Natural Resource Science and Management), an M.S. in Environmental Studies, and a B.A. in Economics (with a certificate in Agroecology)—all from Florida International University.
