Birgit Meade is an economist in the International Trade and Development Branch of the Market and Trade Economics Division at USDA’s Economic Research Service.

Background

Birgit Meade has been at ERS since 1995 and is a Senior Economist with a research focus on international food demand issues. She has worked on a broad range of topics, including estimating global food security indicators and the influence of income and prices on global dietary patterns, analyzing the impact of trade agreements on agriculture and food consumption, and comparing the United States’, Argentina’s, and Brazil’s cost of production and export competitiveness for corn and soybeans.

Education

Birgit received a M.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Diploma in Economics from the University of Saarland, Germany.
