U.S. consumers are growing sweeter on honey

Honey consumption in the United States has been buzzing upward over the past 35 years. In 1990, an average U.S. consumer used scarcely more than a pound of honey per year. By 2025, per capita honey consumption had nearly doubled, reaching approximately 1.9 pounds after a record high of 2.0 pounds in 2024. Rising demand for honey has been attributed to both population growth and to per capita increases in consumption. Honey imports have risen jointly with demand for honey in the United States and make up an increasing share of the total U.S. supply. In 2025, 78 percent of U.S. honey supply was derived from imported sources, most frequently from India, Argentina, Brazil, and Vietnam.
