Timothy Park is Chief of the Food Markets Branch (FMB) in the Food Economics Division at ERS and has served in this position since January 2012, except for a detail as a Senior Economist at the White House's Council of Economic Advisors from June 2015 to June 2016. Tim’s research has focused on 1) productivity and efficiency measurement in the food retail industries, and 2) understanding linkages between the performance of the food supply chain and the food and nutritional choices of consumers.
At the Council of Economic Advisors, Tim was in charge of agriculture, food, and rural resource policy, along with infrastructure and transportation issues. He previously served as the Farm Income Team Leader in ERS’s Resource and Rural Economics Division.
Before joining ERS in 2009, Tim was a professor at the University of Georgia in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics for 16 years. His research and teaching responsibilities covered the productivity and efficiency analysis of food industries, agricultural finance, and applied econometrics. From January 2012 to June 2013, Tim was co-editor of Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy; he received the 2011 President’s Award of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) for outstanding leadership as an inaugural editor of the journal.
Tim holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of California, Davis. He received a B.S.F.S. in International Economics from Georgetown University.
Tim is a member of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. He currently serves on the Editorial Council of Agricultural Economics.
