Lihong McPhail



Lihong Lu McPhail is a research economist in the Field Crops Branch of the Market and Trade Economics Division. Her research focuses on the economics of biofuels, the linkage between agriculture and energy, the impact of biofuels policy, and commodity markets.


After completing her Ph.D., Lihong joined ERS in May 2010. While in graduate school, Lihong taught Principles of Microeconomics and Econometrics, and worked as a research assistant for Center of Agricultural and Rural Development. Her dissertation, "Impacts of Renewable Fuel Regulation and Production on Agriculture, Energy, and Welfare", has made an impact on U.S. ethanol policy.


Lihong has a Ph.D. in Economics from Iowa State University. She also has a B.S. and a M.S. in Finance, from Renmin University of China.
