The tabs are links to applications that have been published on the ERS website
that allow the user to dynamically interact with a map by customizing the map to an
area of geographic interest or selecting a vector of data to view. The applications
are listed by subject area.
Farm Program Acres - Map county-level farm program and planted acreage data and manipulate data to illustrate the share of commodity
base acreage planted to nine major program crops (corn, grain sorghum, barley, oats, wheat, rice, cotton, peanuts, and oilseeds). Available data includes
program acres from USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) (Production Flexibility Contract acres under the 1996 Farm Act,
Base acres designated under the 2002 Farm Act, and
Base acres updated to 1998-2001 plantings under the 2002 Farm Act), as well as
planted acreage from USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
Food Environment Atlas
- Get a spatial overview of a community's ability to access healthy food and its
success in doing so by assembling county-level statistics on food choices,
health and well-being, and community characteristics.
Food Desert Locator
- Locate areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food.
Food access was estimated as the distance to the nearest supermarket or large grocery store.
The analysis was refined by examining households without vehicles and specific
socio-demographic subpopulations drawn from the YYYY Census.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Data System Maps
- Map selected variables from time-series data on county-level estimates of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation
and benefit levels, combined with area estimates of total population and the number of persons in poverty. The most recent year of data
available is 2008 for SNAP participation and 2007 for SNAP benefits.
Atlas of Rural and Small-Town America -
Assemble statistics and view county-level data in four broad categories of socioeconomic factors:
people, jobs, agriculture, and county classifications. The Atlas also features new data from the
Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
Rural Definitions -
The Rural Definitions data product provides several resources and tools for understanding
the issues involved in defining the line between rural and urban areas in the U.S. The resources
include National and State Indicator Tables, State-Level maps of 9 rural definitions,
and a Rural Definition Mapping Utility that allows comparing different Rural Definitions
Regional Agricultural Profiles System
- The Regional Agricultural Profiles System is a data retrieval, aggregation, and presentation tool
for the 2002 Census Agricultural Census. The system allows users to query selected variables from the
Census and view the results in maps, charts, and tables.
