The statistical information on this disk provides an overview of farm
business financial performance (such as income statements, balance
sheets, and financial ratios) for 1987 through 1991 as sourced from
USDA's Annual Farm Costs and Return Survey (FCRS). These FCRS data are
"industry-level" estimates for all growers of nonedible horticultural
crops and, with the exception of cut Christmas tree farms, data are not
available for subsectors such as nursery plant farms and cut flower
farms. However, detailed financial data are available by year, by
economic classes, and by region. All data shown in tables 1-38 are from
the USDA's Farm Cost and Return Survey.

Data shown in tables 39-76 are from special tabulations of the 1987
Census of Agriculture. These data show statistics by horticultural
subsector, i.e., potted flowering plant farms, foliage plant farms, etc.
Detail data include number of farms, total land and horticultural area
use, type of organization, gross income, production expenses, net cash
farm income, and value of capital assets. These data are generally
available at U.S., region, and State levels, and by economic classes.

All tables on this disk are stored as LOTUS (Ver 2.3) worksheets. The
filename "INTRO" is a DOS text (ASCII) file. This file contains the
abstract, summary, introduction, and appendix. The Lotus files can be
utilized by any software capable of reading '.WK1' files. In the
documentation that follows, 'filename' is the name of the file
associated with a particular table on disk. To view the table, simply
retrieve the worksheet name which corresponds to the table listed in the
documentation. Also included on the disk are 8 graph files with the
extension of '.DRW' (example: 'fig1.drw'). These are Lotus Freelance
Graphics (Ver 4.0) files which may be helpful to some data users.

The following file inventory should help you locate tables on the disk:
