GLOBAL COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
This database contains a time-series statistical overview of
agricultural trade by the United States, 113 foreign countries, and
principal regions. It also provides statistics for 15 agricultural
industries. The database contains various economic statistics,
including export and import shares, indexes of competitive advantage
and disadvantage, correlation coefficients that summarize foreign
trader's overall bilateral complementarity with the United States, and
growth rates of these various statistics.
This database includes all of the tables contained in GLOBAL
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES AND OVERALL BILATERAL COMPLEMENTARITY IN
AGRICULTURE: A STATISTICAL REVIEW, SB-850, December, 1992, by Linda
Scott and Thomas Vollrath, Agriculture and Trade Analysis Division,
Economic Research Service, USDA. The database also contains
additional tables for countries not included in the publication.
The following footnotes apply to Tables 160-173:
1/ RTA = SUM t=1...n [(RTA(t)-RTA(t-1))/ABSV{RTA(t-1)}]/n
2/ Developing country total does not include planned Asia.
3/ South Asia total does not include Nepal.
The following footnote applies to Tables 174, 177, 179, 181, 182, 183,
185, 186, and 187:
1/ RTA = SUM t=1...n [(RTA(t)-RTA(t-1))/ABSV{RTA(t-1)}]/n
The following footnotes apply to Tables 175, 176, 178, 180, and 184:
--- = Not available.
1/ RTA = SUM t=1...n [(RTA(t)-RTA(t-1))/ABSV{RTA(t-1)}]/n
Each of the tables contained in the database appears in its own Lotus
1-2-3 release 3.1 worksheet file named Tab*.WK3, where *. identifies
the table number shown below. Tables 32-187 are multiple worksheet
files where data for the years 1989-1977 are on the first page and
data for 1976-1961 are on second page.
The data source for these statistics was the Trade Yearbook Tape of
the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
