This data package consists of two files in LOTUS format. These files
contain weekly data from Soviet newspapers on the area of grains
harvested. The data are given as of each Monday, indicated by an *. In
many cases, the weekly data were interpolated in the file.
File HARVPROG.WK1 contains data for small grains. File CORNH.WK1 contains
data for corn for grain.
In 1990, the Soviets began to provide more data about harvesting progress,
sometimes including tons threshed and purchased by the government. In
some cases they provided comparisons with 1989. The tables have been
modified to include the new information. However, due to the tremendous
changes which occurred in the USSR during 1991, harvest progress reporting
was less consistent. Data on corn for grain was not reported in 1991.
