The ERS Information Center is the principal point of contact to respond to
customer questions regarding ERS products and services. The ERS Information
Center operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Federal
holidays. Staff answering the phones are trained to provide quality customer
service.

This data base focuses on total expenditures of food, beverages
(nonalcoholic and alcoholic) and tobacco in current value and US
dollars and on a per capita basis in US dollars for the United
States and 49 foreign countries from 1970 through 1988.
Expenditures are computed as a percent of disposable personal
income and private final consumption expenditures. Other data
included are gross domestic product, disposable personal income,
private final consumption expenditures, net savings, exchange
rates, total (food and nonfood) sales of restaurants, cafes, and
hotels, and population. For a few countries, data are missing
for a few variables for all years or for all the variables for
the past couple of years.
Data files are Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet files
with the following naming convention.
