                  Agricultural Trade Between Asia/Near East
                  Countries and the United States, 1962-86

The data files on these diskettes conform closely to the statistical
tables in the USDA Statistical Bulletin:  Agricultural Trade Between
Asia/Near East Countries and the United States, 1962-86, prepared by the
Agriculture and Trade Analysis Division, Economic Research Service, USDA.

The Introduction to the Bulletin is reproduced below along with an

diskettes.

                          INTRODUCTION

This report provides a condensed statistical picture of the role and
importance of agricultural trade between the United States and selected
countries and regions in Asia and the Near East.

Numerous sources are available which present agricultural trade
statistics.  However, the majority of these sources either present the
data at such an aggregated basis or at such a disaggregated basis that
the patterns and trends in the major components are difficult to discern. 
This bulletin presents the major components of agricultural trade while
focusing on the significant elements of the trade.

We start with total agricultural products, inputs, fish and forestry as a
basic unit of comparison, and then divide this into 12 components.  Each
table in this report, whether for a country or a country group, contains
the same basic agricultural trade breakdown.  We also show the
composition of the 12 components of agricultural trade if such component
was at least 1 percent of the total in 1985.  Thus, each table has the
same categories, but different subcategories.  The principal source of
the data presented here is the United Nations' Trade Data, Series
D.  We accessed the data through the National Institute of Health Data
Center.
