ERS compares farm and retail prices for foods belonging to each of several commodity groups. Click to select data for:


Dairy

  • ERS calculates farm share and the farm-to-retail price spread for a dairy market basket based on household purchass for at-home consumption. The current series is based on household purchases in 2003. The old series, based on purchases in 1982-84, is also available.

  • ERS also estimates farm share for some individual foods derived from raw milk.

Fruits and vegetables

Field crops

  • For foods produced from major field crops, such as corn, soybeans, and wheat, ERS estimates farm share and the farm-to-retail price spread for a fats and oils market basket and a cereals and bakery market basket. Both baskets are based on household purchases at retail foodstores in 1982-84.

  • ERS also estimates farm share for a few individual foods derived from field crops.
