Overview
- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all food increased
1.8 percent in 2009 and is
forecast to increase 2.5 to 3.5 percent in 2010.
- Food-at-home prices increased 0.5 percent, the lowest
annual increase since 1967, while food-away-from-home
prices rose 3.5 percent in 2009.
- Total
food expenditures for all food consumed in the U.S.
was $1,165.3 billion in 2008, a 3.3-percent increase
from $1,128.0 billion in 2007. Spending on food away
from home was 48.5 percent of the $1,165.3 billion in
total food expenditures in 2008—spending for food
at home was 51.5 percent.
