Procurement and Contracting by Organic Handlers: Download Data

This data product presents select results on the procurement and contracting of organic products from the 2004 Nationwide Survey of Organic Manufacturers, Processors, and Distributors. The survey of certified organic handlers was conducted in 2005-06, and examined marketing and procurement practices in 2004.

Organic Handlers Data

For the Procurement Data, information provided about the procurement practices of organic handlers (1,038 facilities) for 9 commodity groups and 45 commodities at the national, regional, and/or State level. Includes details about basic characteristics of organic handlers, their purchasing characteristics, and information about their relationship with suppliers, including important supplier attributes.

For the Contracts Data, information provided about use of written and verbal contracts between organic handlers (686 facilities that use contracts) and their suppliers for 9 commodity groups and 39 commodities at the national level. Includes details about common contract provisions such as compensation methods and pricing mechanisms.
