Child Nutrition Programs

USDA's Child Nutrition Programs include the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast Program, the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Summer Food Service Program. Together, these programs account for a quarter of USDA's food assistance outlays and provide about 30 million children with healthy meals on a regular basis. ERS research provides policy-relevant information on the effectiveness and efficiency of these programs in promoting the well-being of American children, especially low-income children.
