Rural Development Strategies: Business Assistance

Map depicting per capita Federal nonmetro business assistance, fiscal year 2001. The Small Business Administration provides most of the business assistance in the U.S. However, USDA's Rural Business and Cooperatives Service and the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration also provide assistance to businesses as a means to further economic development. This is a U.S. county map showing how the per capita level of business assistance varied across nonmetro America in fiscal year 2001. In that year, the highest level of receipts (greater than $39 per capita) were in the West and Alaska.
