ERS Typology CodesERS
county-level typology codes capture differences in economic
and social characteristics. Their primary function is
to help differentiate among nonmetro counties, but metro
counties are also coded to facilitate comparisons between
counties on the basis of economic dependence and policy-relevant
classifications.

ERS screens the data for each Federal program for accuracy at the county level and then presents the data by function and type of program for each county and State.
