ERS conducts market outlook (situation and outlook analysis) for dry beans under the Vegetables and Specialties program area. ERS considers the development and implementation of agricultural and international trade policies, domestic and foreign demand for dry beans, weather, commodity and input prices, and general market conditions. ERS disseminates dry bean market information through publications, speeches, data products, and this briefing room.
Publications
Vegetables and Melons Outlook contains
market analyses and data for vegetables, melons, pulses, and mushrooms.
- The Dry Bean section features developments
covering production, trade, domestic consumption, and prices. Tables display
annual acreage by State, production by class, average dealer prices, monthly
grower price trends by class, quarterly trade volume by class, and export
volume and value by country and major class.
- A similar section for Dry Peas and Lentils appears in the same report.
Both of these sections, plus related appendix tables, are posted to this briefing room on the day following release of Vegetables and Melons Outlook.
Data
ERS provides dry bean data in Vegetables and Melons Outlook
and in the annual Vegetables
and Melons Yearbook. The yearbook provides a 25-year time series
for annual dry bean acreage, production, value by State, production,
dealer prices, imports, exports, and per capita consumption by class,
exports by country and by class for the past 4 years, and monthly
grower prices.
ERS maintains two data products covering pulse crops. Dry Peas and Lentils and Dry Edible Beans include historical time-series tables on items such as:
- Acreage
- Yield
- Production
- Prices
- Crop value
- Trade (exports and imports)
- Per capita disappearance
- Information by dry bean class
- World area, production, and trade
