Staff Biographical Page: Kenneth Hanson

Briefly

The current focus of Kenneth’s research is on the interactions of the Food Stamp Program (FSP) with the economy in general, both the impact of the economy on the FSP and the impact of the FSP on the economy. One aspect of this research agenda is the development and use of a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) database, Input-Output Multiplier (IOM) model, and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model of the U.S. economy for food and farm policy analysis. Since starting work at ERS in 1987, he has used the data and models of the U.S. economy to analyze policy issues related to domestic food assistance programs, domestic farm programs, impact of welfare reform on low-skilled labor markets, and issues of trade barriers and promotion programs.

Education

B.S. in general engineering in 1974 at Oregon State University, M.S. in agricultural and resource economics in 1977 at Oregon State University, and Ph.D. in economics in 1986 from the University of Southern California.
