Briefly

Daniel's primary field of study is the value of agricultural conservation programs, with a focus on the Conservation Reserve Program. In particular, he attempts to classify and measure the amenity and environmental value of these programs. This includes work on the amenity value of farmland protection program: work that attempts to derive a measure of why (and how much) the public values the impacts of farmland preservation on the rural landscape.

Current Projects

• Alternative conservation program enrollment mechanisms: using experimental economics to examine the feasibility of an advanced auction mechanism for enrolling participants in agri-environmental programs.
• The impact of biofuels on land use
• The uses of markets in conservation policy
• Continued development of the CRP "likely to bid" model
• Analysis of the effectiveness of the CREP
• The welfare implications of the CRP's impact on outdoor recreation
• Modeling for survey non-response bias
• Planning 2009 AERE workshop on Energy and the Environment

Grew up near Boston, MA. Drove cab for 5 years in Boston in late 70s.
