Briefly

Michael LeBlanc is the Associate Director in ERS's Food Economics Division. The Division covers a broad array of research areas, including food consumption, diet and health, food safety, food manufacturing, wholesale and retail food sectors, food price behavior, and Federal food assistance programs. A consistent theme across these diverse topics is the well-being of consumers, particularly low-income Americans.

Background

During 2000-2001, Michael served as a Senior Economist on the President's Council of Economic Advisors with responsibilities in the areas of agriculture and energy.

Education

Michael received a Ph.D and an M.S. degree in resource economics from Cornell University and a B.S. degree from Michigan State University.

Michael has published research on a variety of topics ranging from investment behavior and forecasting, energy, environmental and tax policy, food security and poverty, and environmental accounting. His most recent publication, "Do High Oil Prices Presage Inflation? Evidence in G-5 Countries," appears in the Journal of Business Economics.
